EDC17C84 Immo Off and Original File: Renault, Dacia and Nissan 1.5 dCi Euro 6 ECU Guide
The Bosch EDC17C84 is the Euro 6 engine ECU of the 1.5 dCi K9K engine from 2015 onward: Renault Clio IV, Captur, Megane IV, Kadjar, Kangoo, Dacia Sandero, Logan, Duster and Dokker, Nissan Qashqai, Juke, Micra and NV200, plus the Mercedes Citan and A/B-Class 180 CDI with the same engine. It replaced the EDC17C42 and SID305/SID310 generation and is now the unit most often requested for EDC17C84 immo off, virgin and original files.
The immobilizer on EDC17C84 cars
Renault’s UCH (body computer) or Nissan’s BCM holds the key data and sends a code to the engine ECU. A used EDC17C84 keeps the code of the donor car: the engine cranks, sometimes fires briefly, then stops, and the immobilizer lamp stays on. Renault CLIP reports DF1073 / DF008 Immobilizer coded style faults; Nissan Consult shows NATS errors.
Which file for which situation
- Virgin file — resets the ECU to unpaired state; CLIP or Consult then pairs it to your own UCH/BCM. The clean option for a replacement ECU.
- Immo off — the ECU starts without the UCH handshake. For dead body computers, engine swaps and test benches.
- Original file — restores a unit after a failed tuning write or a bad DPF/EGR file. Does not change the immobilizer.
Reading the EDC17C84
The EDC17C84 uses a TriCore TC1782 and has tuning protection on nearly every software version, so the first read is done on the bench or in boot mode:
- Bench: KTAG (EDC17C84 bench protocol), Flex and New Trasdata read the full flash and EEPROM through the connector, no opening needed.
- OBD: KESS V2 / KESS3 and Autotuner can write many versions over OBD once the ECU has been unlocked, which is convenient for a stock-file restore.
- Record the Bosch number 0 281 03x xxx and the Renault number 237 10x xxx R (Nissan 23710 xxxxx); the software number on the product page must match.
Writing and afterwards
Write with the tool that made the read. Checksums are already valid in the file. After a virgin file, run the ECU pairing procedure in CLIP (Renault) or the NATS registration in Consult (Nissan) before the first start attempt. After immo off, the engine starts directly; the lamp on the dashboard may stay on.
Notes from the workshop
- The 1.5 dCi Euro 6 with AdBlue (Blue dCi) uses a different software family; check for the SCR mention on the label before ordering.
- A failed injector coding after ECU replacement causes rough idle — enter the injector codes (IMA) with CLIP after pairing.
- Low battery during a bench write is the number one cause of bricked EDC17C84 units; use a stabilised 13.5 V supply.
Find the file
Browse EDC17C84 files or start from Renault, Dacia and Nissan. The earlier K9K units are under EDC17C42 and SID305. For a missing software number, send your read via the file request form.
