MPPS and Galletto 1260 in 2026: K-Line Reads on EDC15, ME7, Sirius 32 and Simos ECUs

25 October 2026 4 min read

A 2003 Passat 1.9 TDI with 0281010543 038906019DS 1348 1037360705 on the EDC15P+ label, an MPPS V13 on the shelf and a laptop running Windows 11. Whether that combination reads the ECU or blinks at you comes down to the cable, the driver and knowing which ECUs are still K-line jobs.

What these tools are

Both are FTDI-based OBD cables with K-line and (on MPPS) CAN. Galletto 1260 is the older EOBD2 flasher: K-line only, no checksum correction, one job done well, which is reading and writing 29F400/29F800 flash on EDC15 and ME7 through pin 7. MPPS came after and added CAN for EDC16/EDC17 (V13 through V16 for the originals, V18/V21 for the Chinese continuations), with checksum on some Bosch families. Neither has any concept of TPROT, encryption or password protection, so their useful ceiling is roughly 2008.

Still reading and writing in 2026

  • Bosch EDC15P+, EDC15VM+, EDC15C2/C3/C4: full flash via K-line. VW TRANSPORTER EDC15VM+ 0281010459 074906018 AL IMMO OFF DUMP, OPEL VIVARO EDC15C3 0281011759 1037371524 DUMP, BMW X5 EDC15C4 0281010314 1037351761 IMMO OFF DUMP. The immo data on EDC15 sits in the 95040 EEPROM, which Galletto does not read; MPPS reads it on some versions, otherwise it’s a bench job.
  • Bosch ME7.1, ME7.1.1, ME7.5: flash reads work. AUDI A8 ME7.1.1 0261208131 4E0910559H 0020 1037381187 IMMO OFF DUMP is a typical one. The 1 MB ME7.1.1 files take a while on K-line, twenty minutes is normal.
  • Siemens Sirius 32 and Sagem S3000 on Renault: RENAULT CLIO SIRIUS32 8200044437 8200069287 IMMO OFF DUMP. Galletto handles the flash on most versions; immo off on these is a flash-level change so the K-line tool is enough.
  • Simos 3PE / 3.3A / 7.1 on the VAG petrols: SKODA FABIA SIMOS 3PE 03E906033 A IMMO OFF DUMP. Reads fine, but writes need patience and a rock-steady battery.
  • Marelli IAW 4MV, 5NF, 59F on Fiat and VW: reading via K-line works with MPPS on most versions; some 59F variants need the bench.
  • EDC16 via CAN with MPPS: EDC16U1/U31/U34, EDC16C34, EDC16C39 read and write, but only on older software versions of the ECU; check the exact 0281 number against the tool list.

Driver and cable problems

Nine out of ten “no communication” reports are the driver. Galletto uses the old FTDI VCP driver; Windows 10/11 updates replace it with a newer one that the software doesn’t like. Roll back to the driver that shipped with the cable, disable driver updates for that device and pick the right COM port (below 10 for Galletto). MPPS V13 needs its dongle recognised before the ECU; if the software runs in demo mode you have a driver problem, not a car problem. Cheap FTDI clones (counterfeit FT232 chips) drop bytes mid-transfer, which shows up as a read that finishes with a checksum error and a file full of 0xFF.

What went wrong on the bench

Real examples from files we’ve been sent. A Galletto write on a Sirius 32 with the headlights on: battery sagged to 11.4 V, write aborted at 60 percent, ECU dead. Recovery was possible only because Sirius 32 can be reflashed on the bench. A ME7.5 read on a Golf with a counterfeit cable: 512 KB file where the ECU holds 1 MB; the customer sent it for immo off and it was useless. A “verified” MPPS write on EDC16U1 done with the wrong checksum option: limp mode and P0601 straight after.

When to stop and move to the bench

K-line goes on the bench when: the read gives the wrong size or two reads differ; the ECU needs EEPROM data (immo off on EDC15 with 95040, cloning); a previous write failed and the ECU no longer answers on pin 7; the tool times out during security access on EDC16. A bench read with KTAG, Flex or KT200 gives you flash and EEPROM in one go, and for EDC15 that includes the immo bytes we edit. Also be honest with the customer: an immo off on a 2003 car still has to pass inspection in most EU countries, and a stolen-vehicle check is your job before you touch it.

Files for these platforms are in the catalogue under EDC15P, ME7.1.1 and Sirius 32, and immo off versions under immo off. If your K-line read looks short or odd, send it with the label photo and we’ll tell you whether it’s usable before you pay.
