SID208 Immo Off, Virgin and Original Files for Ford Ranger, Transit Custom and Jumper 2.2
The label on the ECU of a 2013 Ranger reads AB39-12A650-HC, the truck won’t start after the owner had a second-hand ECU fitted, and the scan tool shows PATS faults and nothing else. That is a SID208 job. Siemens (later Continental) SID208 sits on the Ford Ranger T6 2.2 TDCi, the Transit and Transit Custom 2.2 TDCi from 2012 to 2016, and the Citroen Jumper and Peugeot Boxer 2.2 HDi that use the same Ford Puma engine. Same box, three badges, two different immobiliser systems.
Which SID208 numbers turn up most
Ford prints three references on the SID208 label: the hardware number (12A650), the calibration number (14C204) and a strategy number (12K532). Our shop titles keep all of them, because a file matched on the 12A650 alone can still be the wrong calibration. Examples from the catalogue:
- FORD RANGER SID208 AB39-12A650-FF AB39-14C204-NA AB39-12K532-ATK
- FORD RANGER SID208 AB39-12A650-DF GB3G-14C204-EC AB39-12K532-SEJ
- FORD RANGER SID208 AB39-12A650-HC GB3G-14C204-EC
- FORD CUSTOM SID208 BK21-12A650-AC BK21-14C204-BPK
- FORD CUSTOM SID208 BK21-12A650-AC BK21-14C204-BLV
- CITROEN JUMPER SID208 9676721380 9679061680
The two Custom entries share BK21-12A650-AC but differ in the 14C204 suffix, so they are different calibrations. The PSA vans carry PSA ten-digit numbers instead, so a Jumper file will not be found by searching Ford codes. If the label is unreadable, read the ECU and take the numbers from the ID block; our label guide shows where each one lives.
Reading and writing SID208
The SID208 uses a Tricore processor with external flash, and most current tools handle it. Via OBD, KESS V2 and KESS3 read and write the flash on the majority of software versions, and Autotuner does the same. On the bench, KTAG, Flex and New Trasdata connect on the ECU connector pins and read flash plus the EEPROM area where the immobiliser data sits. For immo work you want the bench read, because an OBD read gives you the maps but not the PATS data.
A low battery during an OBD write is the most common reason a SID208 stops answering. Keep a stabilised supply on the vehicle for the whole write; a failed write is recoverable in boot mode, but it costs an hour.
Immo off, virgin or original, which one do you need
The vehicle runs but a replacement ECU is being fitted
On the Ford side the ECU is tied to the instrument cluster and the keys through PATS. A used SID208 from a breaker will crank and not fire. The proper route is a parameter reset with IDS or FORScan, which needs the cluster and ECU to both accept the procedure, and on some years an outcode and incode from Ford. When that fails, or the donor ECU came from a different model and the tool refuses, an immo off file written to the replacement unit removes the PATS check in the ECU, so the engine starts regardless of what the cluster sends. The PATS light on the dash may still behave oddly; tell the customer.
The original ECU was damaged
A SID208 with a dead driver stage or water damage is a different case. Fit a used one and choose between immo off (fast, no dealer tool) and a virgin file, which puts the ECU back in an unpaired state so IDS or FORScan can marry it to the vehicle as if new. Virgin is the cleaner result and survives a later visit to a Ford dealer without questions.
The ECU is fine but a tune went wrong
Then you want the stock file for that exact software number, not immo work at all. Write the original file back, clear codes, and run a relearn cycle. If the ECU will not identify at all, follow the recovery guide before assuming it is dead.
Jumper and Boxer differences
On the PSA vans the SID208 talks to the BSI, and the immobiliser logic lives in the BSI rather than in a cluster. A used ECU needs pairing with Diagbox (telecoding plus the immobiliser procedure), which works well when the BSI is healthy. Immo off files exist for the PSA SID208 as well and are used when the BSI is faulty or has been swapped. The file removes the check in the engine controller only; a locked BSI can still stop the van.
Common questions
Can I use a Ranger file on a Transit Custom?
No. Different 12A650 hardware and different calibrations, even though the engine family is shared. Match the full label.
Does immo off affect DPF or EGR strategies?
Not on our files; the immo patch is separate from emission functions. DPF or EGR changes are a separate file and, in the EU and Turkey, only for off-road or export vehicles.
Send us the full label (all three Ford numbers, or both PSA numbers) plus a bench read if you have one through the request form, and say whether you want immo off, virgin or stock. Ready-made SID208 files are listed on the SID208 model page, and the wider Ford catalogue is on the Ford brand page.
