VW Transporter T5/T6, Crafter and Amarok ECU files: EDC16U1, EDC17CP20, EDC17C54 and EDC16CP34
A courier fleet drops off three vans on the same morning: a T5 2.5 TDI that cranks and doesn’t fire after a battery swap went wrong, a Crafter 2.0 TDI whose new owner wants the 90 km/h limiter gone, and an Amarok with the DPF light on for the third time this year. Four different Bosch controllers between them, and a wrong file order costs a day the fleet doesn’t have. This is the map we use.
Which ECU is in which van
Transporter T4 (1990 to 2003)
2.5 TDI R5 (ACV, AUF, AXG, AJT) on Bosch EDC15VM+, 074906018 numbers. The LT 2.5 TDI shares it. Immo off is flash-based, OBD read with Galletto or MPPS.
Transporter T5 (2003 to 2009)
1.9 TDI PD (AXB, AXC) with 038906016 numbers and 2.5 TDI R5 PD (AXD, AXE, BNZ, BPC) with 070906016 numbers, both on EDC16U1. The Caddy 2K of the same era is EDC16U1 too.
Transporter T5.1 and T6 (2009 to 2019)
2.0 TDI EA189 (CAAB, CAAC, CFCA BiTDI) on EDC17CP20; the T6 from 2015 moves to EA288 (CXFA, CXHA, CXEB) on EDC17C74 on most versions. Check the label, the changeover isn’t clean by model year.
Crafter 2E (2006 to 2016)
2.5 TDI R5 (BJK, BJL, BJM) on EDC16CP34 with 074906032 numbers until 2011, then 2.0 TDI (CKTB, CKUB, CSLB BiTDI) on EDC17C54 with 03L997403 numbers. The Crafter SY from 2017 is EA288 on EDC17C74 or later units.
Amarok 2H (2010 to 2020)
2.0 TDI and BiTDI (CDCA, CNFB, CSHA) on EDC17CP20, EA288 variants from 2016, and the 3.0 V6 TDI on EDC17CP44. We don’t have Amarok reads among the samples quoted here, so check the label and send the read.

The four fleet requests
Immo off
Fleet vans get ECUs from breakers because downtime costs more than a new unit. On EDC15VM+ the immo change is in the flash and goes in over OBD. On EDC16U1 and EDC16CP34 it’s in the EEPROM, so the ECU comes out for a BDM read with KTAG or Flex. EDC17CP20, C54 and C74 are bench reads (Flex, KT200, FoxFlash). T6 and the later Crafter are Immo 5; the proper route is ODIS or VCP adaptation, and immo off is the fallback when that’s not reachable.
Vmax
Two different things. A T5, T6 or Amarok at 3.0 to 3.2 t is N1 and there’s no legal requirement for a limiter, so a factory cap on a fleet spec can be lifted in the file. A 3.5 t Crafter is N1 too, but the 5.0 t Crafter is N2 and the 90 km/h limiter is required by EU law. Removing it on an N2 van is not something we’ll do, and for the operator it’s a roadside fine and an insurance problem.
DPF and EGR
City-cycle vans clog EGR valves and never finish a regeneration. The honest fix is a forced regen with VCDS and an EGR clean, then a motorway run. Where the filter is physically gone and the van won’t face an emissions inspection (export, off-road site use), a DPF off or EGR off file with the right software version stops the limp mode. In most EU countries it fails inspection and the operator carries the liability, so put that on the invoice.
Original after a failed flash
Most common on the T5.1 CP20 after a cheap tuning box or an interrupted OBD write. Bench read, match the software number, write the full original. Don’t write a T5.1 file into an Amarok CP20 just because the box looks the same; the injector and gearbox coding differ.
Originals for the units above are on the EDC17CP20 and EDC16CP34 pages and their neighbours, and the DPF off category holds the modified versions. Send the read with the van’s label photo via the request form and tell us the gross weight if it’s a Vmax job.
