Bosch MD1CS003 Original File: Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, Fiat and Toyota 1.5 / 1.6 BlueHDi ECU Recovery
The Bosch MD1CS003 is the engine controller of the PSA 1.5 BlueHDi (DV5) and 1.6 BlueHDi (DV6FD) engines fitted since 2017 to the Peugeot 208, 308, 2008, 3008, 5008, Partner, Citroen C3, C4, Berlingo, DS models, Opel Corsa F, Astra K and Combo, Fiat Doblo and Toyota ProAce City. With more than 200 references in our catalogue it is the most common MD1CS003 original file request we receive, mostly after a failed tuning attempt or a DPF-related flash gone wrong.
Identify the unit
The ECU label carries a Bosch number 0 281 0xx xxx and a PSA part number 98xxxxxx80. The software number (SW 98xxxxxx80 or a 10SWxxxxxx code) is what has to match the file; the same hardware can carry dozens of software versions depending on model year and market. The Toyota and Opel variants use the same hardware with their own software numbers.
Reading and writing the MD1CS003
The MD1CS003 runs on an Infineon TriCore TC298 with a large external flash. It is a locked platform, so the method matters:
- OBD: possible on many software versions with KESS3, Autotuner or Flex (virtual read on newer versions, full write supported). Ideal for a stock-file restore when the ECU still communicates.
- Bench: Flex, KTAG (recent versions) and New Trasdata read the full flash on the bench without opening the case. This is the method for a unit that no longer answers on OBD.
- Boot / JTAG: only when the bootloader area itself is damaged; needs the case opened and a specialist tool.
When an original file is the fix
- Bricked after a flash — the ECU does not identify, no communication or fault P0601 / P0606. A full original read written on the bench brings it back.
- Wrong tuned file — power loss, limp mode or DPF regeneration errors after a stage 1 from an unknown source. Restoring the stock file clears the calibration side; codes then need a scan tool reset.
- Warranty or inspection — returning the vehicle to factory software before a dealer visit.
An original file does not change the immobilizer. A used MD1CS003 from another car still needs a virgin file and BSI pairing with Diagbox.
Checksums and TPROT
Files in our catalogue are full reads with valid checksums. When writing on the bench, let the tool do its checksum pass; do not mix a bench read from one tool with an OBD write from another unless the tool documents the format compatibility (some tools store the flash in a different order).
