VAG DQ200 0AM Mechatronic Dump: Cloning a Used Unit on Golf, Passat, A3 and Leon
Golf Mk6 1.4 TSI with the 7-speed DSG. Gearbox warning on the dash, emergency mode, P17BF hydraulic pressure low. The mechatronic comes off and the label reads 0AM927769D, software 0AM300048L. The customer has found a used unit on a forum for a quarter of the dealer price. Can you make it work? Usually yes, but only after you’ve ruled out the failures no file can fix.
Hardware first
DQ200 mechatronics fail in a few well-known ways, and a used unit with the same fault is money wasted:
- Cracked pressure accumulator (P17BF, P189C, sudden loss of drive). The hydraulic block is at fault.
- Pump motor worn, or the pump track burned on the PCB.
- Broken gear position sensor tracks, giving implausible gear codes.
- Clutch pack worn out, judder at pull-away, slipping in 2nd and 4th. That’s the clutch, not the mechatronic.
Only the electronic part carries data. If the used unit has a healthy hydraulic block and pump, cloning the electronics works well. If not, start with the hardware.
What’s in a DQ200 mechatronic dump
The controller is an Infineon Tricore, and a full read gives you the flash (software and calibration, the 0AM300 number) plus the data area with the immobiliser link, the VIN and the adaptation values. Our listings are named as you’ll see them on the label, hardware and software together:
- VAG GEARBOX DQ200 0AM927769D 0AM300050P 9030 DUMP
- VAG GEARBOX DQ200 0AM927769D 0AM300050Q 9030 DUMP
- VAG GEARBOX DQ200 0AM927769D 0AM300065G 6564 DUMP
- VW PASSAT GEARBOX DQ200 0AM927769D 0AM300054L 3644 DUMP
- AUDI A3 GEARBOX DQ200 0AM927769K 0CW300046 5110 IMMO OFF DUMP
- SEAT LEON GEARBOX DQ200 0AM927769G 0CW300044T 5244 IMMO OFF DUMP
Add the software variants from the opening, 0AM300048L and 0AM300058S on the 0AM927769D hardware. The four-digit number is the software version. A used unit with an older version will work, but it may bring back a shift complaint that the later software fixed.
Cloning a used mechatronic
- Read the original on the bench. Boot mode on the Tricore with KTAG, KT200, FoxFlash or Flex; the boot pin and the pin-out for the mechatronic are different from an engine ECU, so use the tool’s own diagram.
- Read the donor the same way. Keep both full reads.
- Write the original flash and data area into the donor. Now the donor carries the immo link to your car’s engine ECU and the VIN.
- Fit, connect VCDS or ODIS, clear codes, and run the basic settings sequence (the guided clutch and gear position adaptations). Without adaptation a cloned unit will shift, but roughly.
- Road test with the adaptation drive: stop-start traffic, gentle pull-aways in both directions, then some 3rd to 4th and 5th to 6th changes.
Immo off, virgin or clone?
The mechatronic is paired to the engine ECU through the immobiliser (component protection on newer cars). Three options:
- Clone: full original dump into the donor. Nothing to pair, best result.
- Virgin: immo area cleared, the car pairs it at first key-on with the security access login in ODIS or VCDS. Use this when the original is dead or unreadable.
- Immo off: the mechatronic ignores the pairing check. Useful for a swap between cars in a hurry or a bench test, but the car then has a gearbox that any donor unit can replace, which is worth explaining to the owner.
For the general difference between these files, the original vs virgin vs FRF guide applies to gearboxes as much as engines.
Why does it read fine but the write fails?
Usually the tool’s handling of the Tricore password. Later 0AM927769D units have protected boot. Read the tool’s notes, and never write a partial file into a Tricore; a failed write here leaves a unit that won’t even go into limp mode. If that has happened, the bricked ECU guide covers the recovery approach.
DQ200 dumps by hardware and software number are in the DQ200 section and the gearbox category. Send both numbers from the label and the four-digit version through the request form if you want an exact match rather than the nearest one.
