EDC16C7 and EDC16CP31 Immo Off / Virgin: Fiat, Alfa, PSA and Chrysler Diesel ECUs

26 September 2026 2 min read

Two Bosch diesel ECUs from the mid-2000s generate a steady stream of immobilizer requests: the EDC16C7 (Peugeot 307/407 2.0 HDi, Citroen C4/C5, Ford 2.0 TDCi shared with PSA) and the EDC16CP31 (Chrysler 300C 3.0 CRD, Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD, Mercedes-derived OM642 applications). Both use the same core, both are common on the used-parts market, and both need the right file type to get a car running again.

Which file do you need

Situation File
Used ECU, car’s own BSI/SKREEM intact Virgin — ECU re-learns the code from the body computer
Body computer dead or unknown key data Immo off — no handshake required
ECU bricked after a tuning attempt Original — stock flash for the same software

EDC16C7 on PSA and Ford

On Peugeot/Citroen the BSI sends the immobilizer code; a virgin EDC16C7 pairs automatically at the first ignition cycle. On Ford (Mondeo/Focus 2.0 TDCi) the PATS system must program the ECU with IDS, so immo off is more often chosen. The hardware number is 0 281 011 xxx / 0 281 012 xxx; the PSA software number is 96 xxx xxx 80.

EDC16CP31 on Chrysler and Jeep

The SKREEM/WCM module holds the key data. A virgin EDC16CP31 needs a WiTech/DRB session to learn the SKIM code; without dealer access, immo off is the reliable workshop path. Part numbers are Bosch 0 281 011 xxx with a Chrysler 05xxx xxx AA number.

Reading and writing

Both ECUs are fully supported over OBD by KESS V2; bench mode with KTAG or Flex reads the flash plus the internal EEPROM and is the safest route for immo work. The MPC processor is robust, but voltage drops during a write still brick units — use a battery supply.

  1. Read and save the original flash (and EEPROM in bench mode).
  2. Match hardware and software numbers with the product page.
  3. Write the file, let the tool correct the checksum, cycle the ignition.
  4. Clear codes; on a virgin file wait for the pairing before the first start attempt.

Common pitfalls

  • Mixing C7 and CP31 files — same family, incompatible software.
  • Buying a virgin file for a car whose body computer is the actual fault.
  • Forgetting that a used ECU may also carry a different injector coding — check IMA/IQA values after the swap.

Getting the right file

See EDC16C7 and EDC16CP31 files, searchable by hardware and software number. For a version we do not stock, upload the original read on the file request page.
